Giclees

I am offering Giclees of some of my original paintings. These Giclees are very high
quality and presents a very professional likeness of the original painting.
Giclee is French, meaning "spitted ink" or inkjet processing.
The process for creating the Giclee is as personal as painting the original. The original
oil painting must be scanned on a flat scanner at high resolution. I then install it into the
computer where it is tweaked in a software program such as Adobe Photoshop CS2.
I then load it into my Epson Stylus 7600 Printer and print samples using several
ICC Profiles until I find the one that best matches the color of the original painting.
This prcess is known as Color Coding.
I print these Giclees individually with high quality Epson Ultra Chrome Waterproof
Permanent Inks on 100% cotton, water resistant canvas or professional fiine art papers.
After printing, each canvas is hand cut to size and personally inspected. The Giclee is
then coated with two coats of gel medium for protection. The canvas Giclees are then
stretched on stretcher bars in the same way as the original oil painting. I then coat the
stretched Giclee with Polymer UVLS Varnish for lasting durability and additional UV
protection.
On most Giclees I then embellish some of the high points with oil paints. After
allowing the embellishment to dry for several days I touch them up with a light
spray of Kamar Varnish to even out the finish. I then personally sign my signature
to the finished piece and it is ready for displaying. It may be stretched as gallery wrap
needing no frame, if not, it is now ready for framing. The fine art paper Giclees are
ready for matting and framing.
These Giclees are created in various sizes. Generally a Giclee will be priced at about
10% of the original painting price. This allows you, the collector, to enjoy fine art at a
reduced cost.
